What we fix
A single cracked tile lets water in every time it rains, and that water ends up in your ceiling. The ACT SES's storm advice is to fix any damage to your roof, including broken or missing tiles, before the storms arrive. We fix:
- Cracked or broken tiles, replaced so the roof sheds water again
- Slipped tiles, put back in place
- Re-bedding and pointing on ridge caps where the old mortar has cracked or come away
- Small leaks, sealed
- Metal roof fixes for small problems on metal roofs
What those repairs actually mean
Roofing words get thrown around in quotes, so here's what they mean.
Re-bedding. The ridge caps along the top of a tiled roof sit on a bed of mortar. Over the years that bedding cracks and comes loose, and the caps can move. Re-bedding means lifting the caps, clearing the old mortar and setting them on a fresh bed.
Pointing. Pointing is the finishing layer over the bedding that seals the edges of the ridge caps. Old cement pointing cracks as the roof moves with the heat and cold. Modern flexible pointing compounds are made to move with the roof instead of cracking.
Replacing cracked or slipped tiles. A cracked tile gets swapped for a matching one. A slipped tile gets set back in its row so it overlaps the tiles around it properly again.
Finding a leak. Water often runs along a roof before it drips through, so the stain on your ceiling isn't always under the problem. The usual culprits are cracked tiles, failed pointing on the ridge, blocked valleys and gutters, and the seals around flashings, vents and skylights.

No. We don't re-roof, restore, paint or do structural work on roofs. Those are jobs for a roofing company. We stick to the small repairs that keep a sound roof watertight.

If the cause is rusted-through roofing, a failed valley or flashing that needs replacing, or structural damage, that's bigger than a minor repair and we'll tell you so you can get the right trade in.
